Advance Planning: June 2016 Music Calendar

Calendar 4

It’s June, so here is the June music calendar.  This month has more shows happening than the past few months and one day when it seems that everyone in town is playing someplace (June 2).  Make Music New York will happen on June 21st, and if there is a searchable schedule for it, I’ll post some recommendations later in the month.

In any event, the usual ground rules apply: listings are for venues in New York City (and occasionally Hoboken or Jersey City near public transportation) and for bands that I can personally recommend or which I have reason to believe are worthwhile.  All shows listed here are free or have tickets which cost $40 or less.  I’ve tried to list the set time for each band.  If all I have is a time when the show starts or when doors open, I’ll list that and so note it.  As always, this calendar will be updated from time to time during the coming month, both in a separate post and with updates on this calendar.

Music Video: Israel Nash – LA Lately (Live)

October 28, 2015

Israel Nash Band 2015

Israel Nash was in town recently, touring behind his newly released album, Israel Nash’s Silver Season.  This song, LA Lately, is on that album. It’s long, languid and psychedelic.  This video was professionally shot live at Pickathon earlier this summer.  I’ll tip my hat to  radio station KEXP for it.

Tonight: Israel Nash at The Mercury Lounge

October 22, 2015

Israel Nash Gripka

If you are a long time reader, you may remember Now I’ve Heard Everything’s coverage of  Israel Nash.  Israel left New York City a few years ago and has been touring, mostly in Europe, since then.  Israel’s last three records made the Now I’ve Heard Everything Best Albums list, in 2009, 2011 and 2014, respectively. Israel has a brand new album out, Israel Nash’s Silver Season.  Like its predecessor, it is languid and psychedelic.

Israel is back in town tonight along with a full band at The Mercury Lounge.  It’s an early show, perfect for those of you who can’t stay out late on a school night.

Israel Nash, Mercury Lounge, 217 East Houston Street between Ludlow and Essex Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit, F Train to Delancey Street or J or M Trains to Essex Street), 8pm, $12

Calendar3

Both the calendar and the weather are poised to change over the next few days.  So here is the Now I’ve Heard Everything Music Calendar for October.  The new month will start out with everyone (or so it seems) playing on the first.  Two weeks later, we’ll have the 2015 edition of CMJ.  And I’ve already listed two New Year’s Eve shows, too.

Here are the usual ground rules: listings are for venues in New York City and for bands that I can personally recommend or which I have reason to believe are worthwhile.  All shows listed here are free or have tickets which cost $40 or less. I’ve tried to list the set time for each band.  If all I have is a time when the show starts or when doors open, I’ll list that and so note it.  As always, this calendar will be updated from time to time during the coming month.

Advance Planning: September 2015 Music Calendar

September 1, 2015

Calendar3

It’s September, but a quirk in the calendar gives us a full week before Labor Day.  So the summer season has one more week than usual to run.

I’ve broken one of the usual rules to list a show that is priced above the $40 ticket price cutoff.  That show is Neil Fest, which has a bunch of big names singing the songs of Neil Young.  At $50-55 a ticket, it’s pricey, but it’s being done for charity.

As for the rest of the calendar, the usual ground rules apply: listings are for venues in New York City and for bands that I can personally recommend or which I have reason to believe are worthwhile.  All shows listed here are free or have tickets which cost $40 or less. I’ve tried to list the set time for each band.  If all I have is a time when the show starts or when doors open, I’ll list that and so note it.  As always, this calendar will be updated from time to time during the coming month.
