Tonight: The Karyn Kuhl Band at Sinatra Park in Hoboken

June 16, 2016

Karen Kuhl

Here’s all you need to know about Karyn Kuhl: she’s a force of nature, both on the guitar and on vocals.  She leads her band through original songs which blend blues, garage rock and mid 60s pop.  Bracing is a word that comes to mind for a set from Karen and the band.

Just last week, Karyn released a new EP, The Stars Will Take You Home.  Those six songs include five original songs and one very surprising cover.  That EP contains the best new collection of psychedelic rock you will hear this year.

PATH trains will take you to Hoboken.  It’s not all that far from the PATH station to Sinatra Park.  Although there is some rain in the forecast for today, it should be over long before the show there begins with The Christine Santelli Band at 7pm.

Karyn Kuhl Band (Christine Santelli Band opens),  Sinatra Park Hoboken (PATH Train to Hoboken), show 7pm, Free

Tonight: It’s a Busy Sunday Night

April 28, 2013

Choices Large

Although Sunday is usually a quiet night, there are more shows than usual to consider tonight.  Freddie Stevenson, who played Sunday nights for many years at The Rockwood Music Hall, returns to The Rockwood tonight, albeit at a much earlier time (9pm) than his previous midnight slot.

Australian Karlie Bruce along with her musical partner Chris Parrello finish their month-long Sunday night residency at Pete’s Candy Store tonight.  I saw them last week and their full band show was a laid back affair with many new songs making their appearance.

Over at The Treehouse at 2A, the monthly Field of Stars makes its appearance tonight featuring Christine Santelli and Gene Casey along with Monica “Li’l Mo” Passin.  Expect country, Americana, blues and the unexpected at this singer-songwriter in the round show.

Finally singer-songwriter Aly Tadros will play a midnight show at The Rockwood Music Hall.  Tonight Aly will be backed by violin, cello, bass and drums.

Freddie Stevenson (9pm), Aly Tadros (Midnight), Rockwood Music Hall, 196 Allen Street between Houston and Stanton Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit but note that the downtown F will not stop at 2nd Avenue tonight), No Cover (but a contribution for each band is highly recommended)

Karlie Bruce/Chris Parrello, Pete’s Candy Store,  709 Lorimer St Williamsburg (L Train to Lorimer Street or G Train to Metropolitan Avenue), 8:30pm, No Cover (but a contribution for the musicians is highly recommended)

Christine Santelli, Gene Casey and Monica “Li’l Mo” Passin, Treehouse at 2A, 25 Avenue A at 2nd Street (F Train to Delancey Street or 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit but note that the downtown F will not stop at these stations tonight), 8:30pm, No Cover (but a contribution for the musicians is highly encouraged)

Here’s the April 2013 Now I’ve Heard Everything Music Calendar.  Most events on the calendar are free or low cost and no shows which has tickets which start at more than $40 are listed.  The calendar is always a work in progress and as additional shows are announced during the month they will be noted in a separate post and also added here. From now on, those updates will be filed in a new category, Calendar Updates, so that the latest updated full calendar will be the first post in the Calendar category.  Just go to the Category box in the right hand column to find it.
