Tonight: A Tribute to Squeeze at The Hi-Fi Bar

Squeeze Squabs

If you were near a radio back in the late 70s and early 80s, you are probably familiar with the band Squeeze.  Because they were English, melodic and pretty close to ubiquitous, the group’s two songwriters, Chris Difford and Glenn Tillbrook, got called things like “the Lennon and McCartney of the 70s.”  That was probably a bit of a stretch, but there’s no denying that they were very good.  Tonight, a group of musicians, namely Rembert Block, Tom Shad, Dave Derby, Mike Fornatale, Charly Roth, Lizzie Edwards, Erica Smith, Beth Wawerna, Tommy Devito, John Merjave, Dave Foster, Mike Messer, Karlee Devito, John Brodeur , Chadbourne Oliver, Alexis Thomason, Lane Steinberg, Verena Wiesendanger, Dave Derby, and Tom Clark,  will pay tribute to Squeeze by playing their songs at The Hi-Fi Bar in the East Village beginning at 8pm.  It’s probably the most tuneful place you can be this Wednesday night.

Still not sold?  Then check out this video which contains eight hits from Squeeze in less than five minutes.
