Today and Tonight: Four Musical Choices

Choices Large

Over the past year or two, Sunday has morphed into one of the biggest days for live music in the week in NYC.  Not only does today’s musical menu reflects that, you don’t have to wait for the evening as the first of today’s recommended shows is in the afternoon.

Over in Williamsburg, Brooklyn Bowl‘s Bluegrass Brunch will host longtime Now I’ve Heard Everything favorites The Demolition String Band.  This all ages event opens its doors at noon with The DSB bringing their brand of twang, alt country and rock to the stage at 2pm.

Still in Brooklyn, but this time a G train ride away in Park Slope, you’ll find The Radigan Roundup at The 12th Street Bar and Grill, as usual.  At the Roundup, the music is usually stripped down and things are loose and spontaneous. Joining Terry Radigan on stage tonight will be Janie Barnett, Benjamin Cartel, Billy Stephen, Carmella Ramsey, and Kenny Vaughan.  Things get going here at around 7:30pm.

Over in Manhattan at The Rockwood Music Hall, Joy Askew will be previewing songs from her forthcoming brass band album.  Joining Joy on the vocals tonight will be James Maddock.  Joy and company will take the stage at 8pm.

Just a few blocks away, you’ll find Tom Clark’s Treehouse at 2A, which has been providing great Sunday night music since 2011.  Tonight, Rembert Block, who sings backup with a huge part of the New York City musical universe will step up to the forefront with her own band, Rembert and The Basic Goodness.  If you’ve ever seen Rembert anywhere, you’ll want to see her take her star turn here.  R&TBG will go on after a short Treehouse salute to Merle Haggard; figure someplace after 9pm.
