It’s another one of those nights with multiple choices. Where you go will depend on your musical mood or your geographic location.
If you want to hang on the Lower East Side, there are two worthwhile shows waiting for you on Allen Street at the original stage of The Rockwood Music Hall. There, at 8pm, you’ll find Aly Tadros. She has just finished recorded a new record, with Kevin Salem producing. In the past, Aly’s music has blended Americana and folk. I’m not sure in what direction the new material goes, but it should be fun and rewarding to find out tonight.
Later, at 10pm, Nick Africano will take the stage at The Rockwood. Nick’s music is melodic and soulful. Nick is just back from a European jaunt and perhaps that will inspire him in either story or song.
Over in Williamsburg, at 9pm, you find the second and final night of Alex Battles‘ annual Johnny Cash Birthday Bash, this one saluting Johnny’s 84th. Alex and his band, The Whisky Rebellion, will play the hits of The Man in Black and songs from Johnny’s record Bitter Tears, Ballads of the American Indian. Miss Linda Hill will join Alex and the band and the Dock Oscar Gospel Quartet will be there to provide backing vocals throughout the evening.
Aly Tadros (8pm), Nick Africano (10pm), Rockwood Music Hall, 196 Allen Street between Houston and Stanton Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit), 11pm, No Cover (but a contribution for the musicians is highly recommended)
The Johnny Cash 84th Birthday Bash with Alex Battles and The Whisky Rebellion and Miss Linda Hill, The Hall at MP , 470 Driggs Avenue between N. 10th and N. 11th Streets (L Train to Bedford Avenue), 9pm, $20
