Yeah, it’s freezing out there. But here’s a wonderful double bill for tonight at The Rockwood Music Hall. It’s just across the street from the subway, so you won’t have to be walking all over the place to get there.
At 8pm, The Morning Sea will take Stage 2. This is the album release show for TMS’s new one, Mal de Mer. Although the band is new to me, they’ve been around for a while, and the record sounds pretty interesting in a rock-Americana way.
Once The Morning Sea finishes, just go next door to the original Rockwood stage. There, at 9pm, The Westies, a Chicago-based band, will play a set. A couple of years ago, at the suggestion of some friends, I saw The Westies for the first time, and was duly impressed. They are tour behind their album, Six on the Out. The Westies are led by Michael McDermott, whose voice and songwriting are somewhat reminiscent of Bruce Springsteen.
The Morning Sea, Rockwood Stage 2, 196 Allen Street between Houston and Stanton Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit), 8pm, No Cover (but a contribution for the musicians is highly recommended)
