There is a fine double bill at City Winery tonight. Here’s how it will work. Opening the show will be The Bottle Rockets. They play tuneful and intelligent rock n roll. The record they released last year, South Broadway Athletic Club, landed on top of Now I’ve Heard Everything’s Best Albums of 2015, and their show at The Bowery Electric a few months back was similarly one of my favorite shows of the past year.
When The Bottle Rockets finish their set, they will join headliner Marshall Crenshaw as his backing band. Marshall has been around since his self-titled debut album back in 1982, and he too specializes in well crafted songs with thoughtful lyrics. I’ll bet there is no way that you don’t know his song Someway, Someday.
Marshall Crenshaw and The Bottle Rockets, City Winery, 155 Varick Street between Spring and Vandam Streets (2 or 3 Trains to Houston or Canal Streets, C or E Train to Spring Street), doors 6pm / show 8pm, $28, $32, $35 but $5 off each ticket if you order on line and use coupon code DETROIT
