Tonight: Leslie Mendelson and Julia Haltigan at The Rockwood Music Hall

Tonight there is a great twofer in store for anyone who gets to The Rockwood Music Hall.  There you’ll find two great NYC based musicians, Leslie Mendelson and Julia Haltigan.

Leslie Medelson Jericho

Long time Now I’ve Heard Everything favorite Leslie Mendelson will play Rockwood’s Stage 3 tonight.  Joining Leslie for this show will be Leslie’s long time musical collaborator Steve McEwan on guitar and New York music scene fixture Jeff Hill on bass.

If you haven’t heard or heard of Leslie, she plays piano, guitar, ukelele and sings, has a great pop sensibility, and as legendary NYC DJ Vin Scelsa once said, “nobody can write a sweet song like Leslie.”  Famed producer Jac Holzman has even compared Leslie to Carol King.  Leslie performed Elvis Costello‘s Everyday I Write the Book with Steve Nieve at City Winery, and has played with Bob Weir as well.

Once Leslie finishes her set, go upstairs, turn right, go past the bar and qalk through the short corridor from Rockwood Stage 3 to Stage 2. There, at 10pm, Julia Haltigan will be playing.

If you don’t know Julia or her music, all you need to know is that she sings, plays guitar and her material draws on rock, r&b, latin rhythms, 40s and 50s pop and more.  Some of Julia’s songs could be called  Tom Waitsian except for the fact that they are way too cheerful for Tom. This is a full band show!!
