Tonight: Mieka Pauley at The Rockwood Music Hall and Arum Rae at The Mercury Lounge

Mieka Pauley Rockwood 3-21-15

Tonight, there’s a late night Lower East Side doubleheader on tap.  It starts at the original stage of The Rockwood Music Hall tonight, at 9pm.  There you’ll find Mieka Pauley playing her monthly Rockwood show.  Mieka is an incisive writer, a powerful singer and a fine blues guitarist.  Whether she is singing her own songs or playing a few choice covers, you’ll find yourself moved by Mieka’s performance.  So take this opportunity to see her.

Arum Rae

Once Mieka’s show has finished, walk three blocks east on Houston Street.  There, just a few feet from the corner of Essex Street is The Mercury Lounge, where Arum Rae will play a set at the stroke of midnight.  Arum is a singer and songwriter (she has cowritten material with The Civil WarsJohn Paul White and Steve McEwan of Melody Kills).  I’ve seen Arum play several shows over the years and in those shows her songs have run the gamut between indie rock and blues. In any event, Arum will grab your attention.

Mieka Pauley, Rockwood Music Hall, 196 Allen Street between Houston and Stanton Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit), 10pm, No Cover (but a contribution for the band is highly recommended)

Arum Rae, Mercury Lounge, 217 East Houston Street between Ludlow and Essex Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit, F Train to Delancey Street or M or J Trains to Essex Street), Midnight, $10
