Tonight: A Tripleheader at The Rockwood Music Hall

RockwoodIt’s a good night to hang out at the original stage at The Rockwood Music Hall.  Hitting the stage at 8pm will be long time Now I’ve Heard Everything favorite Sasha Dobson.  For this show she is stepping away from Puss n Boots, the band she is in with Norah Jones and Catherine Popper.  Sasha will be playing her own songs, including those from her most recent album, Aquarius, released about two years ago, and I suspect some new material as well.

Later, at 10pm, Jim Campilongo will continue his long running Monday night residency as well.  Joining Jim tonight, will be Chris Morrissey on bass and Josh Dion on drums.  These Monday night sessions are an exploration of the instrumental side of music, a jazz approach to rock, if you will.  Jim is a master of the Telecaster, and you will be amazed at what he can do with it.

Immediately following Jim, David Luther take over.  David will not be playing his usual set tonight; here’s what he says will be happening:

This time, I’ll be trying something new: a set of atmospheric instrumental tunes, inspired by old rhythm n’ blues, surf rock, spaghetti westerns, classic James Bond underscore, and such ilk. Screaming sax, spring reverb in abundance, a variety of delectable grooves.

As usual, David will be on sax and tonight will be joined by Mark Marshall on guitar, Adam Minkoff on bass and Rob Heath on drums.

Sasha Dobson (8pm), Jim Campilongo Trio with Chris Morrissey, Josh Dion (10pm), and David Luther (11pm), Rockwood Music Hall, 196 Allen Street between Houston and Stanton Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit – note that the F Train is only running uptown into the Lower East Side), No Cover (but a contribution for the musicians is highly recommended)
