I first saw Hayes Carll a few years ago when he opened for The Court Yard Hounds at South by Southwest. He sounded like a country Todd Snider or John Prine to me. Since then, he’s released an album titled KMAG YOYO, which is military speak for kiss my ass guys, you’re on your own, and Hayes has played New York a few times. He’s a great deal of fun. Tonight Hayes is playing the first of three New York City shows this month (Check the July calendar for the other two shows).
Hayes Carll, Mercury Lounge, 217 East Houston Street between Ludlow and Essex Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit, F Train to Delancey Street or M or J Trains to Essex Street), 8pm, $20
