Tonight I can recommend two shows, one early and one late. Both of the shows will take place at Stage 3 of The Rockwood Music Hall, the seated, subterranean room with the entrance on Orchard Street. The first show gets going at 7:30pm and consists of The Kennedys. The husband and wife duo consists of Pete and Maura and they have been playing together since 1994. Usually, when they play live it’s just the two of them. Even so, with their two guitars, they still get a rather full sound. I’ve always described the full band Kennedys as sounding like The Byrds but with female lead vocals.
Having just passed their 20th anniversary as a band, Pete and Maura have not lifted their feet off the pedal. Separately and together, Pete and Maura are planning three new records for 2015. One of those records is titled West, and was released earlier this year. Tonight is the CD release show for the second record, Maura Kennedy’s solo CD, Villanelle: The Songs Of Maura Kennedy And B.D. Love. It is a collaboration of the lyrics of widely published poet, B.D.Love, with music composed by Maura Kennedy.
Then at 11:30pm, long time Now I’ve Heard Everything favorite Julia Haltigan will unveil her new side project. Here’s what Julia has to say about it:
I’m very excited to share with you a fun side project I’ve been working on as my alter ego, Ann Bond! Some of you may know that I’ve been singing in the off broadway hit, Sleep No More. Crooning jazz standards is a ball and I’ve been inspired to develop the fun further bringing it back to prohibition era all the way through the late 50’s early 60’s. Performing as Ann Bond feat. Luther & The Missing Lynx, should inspire you to dust off your Henry Mancini records, order a dirty martini, bang the bongos and cha cha cha til you drop. Slip into something slinky, release your inner party animal and come misbehave with us in the basement of Rockwood Music Hall
