Tonight is one of the best nights for music in NYC that I’ve seen in a while. Doors open at 7pm for a wonderful triple bill at The Bowery Electric featuring Edward Rogers and The Biba Crowd, A Don Piper Situation and Lianne Smith. Across town in Soho, long time Now I’ve Heard Everything favorites Poundcake will play City Winery. This is the CD release show for the band’s new one, Poundcake’s Greatest Hits, Vol. 2. Roy Williams opens the show, which starts at 8pm.
Also at 8pm on the Lower East Side, Bucky Hayes and his band will play their monthly show at The Rockwood Music Hall. As always, Bucky is bringing plenty of great Americana for the crowd. Just an hour later and a bit north and east, Julia Haltigan, Leslie Mendelson and Dawn Landes bring their new project, The Harlem River Girls to the cozy and intimate 11th Street Bar. That show will launch at 9pm.
If you prefer to go out later or in Brooklyn, there are two shows that have you covered. At 10pm at Skinny Dennis in Williamsburg, North of Amarillo will be playing plenty of country and alt country with the amazing Kelli Scarr handling the vocals. A bit to the south and east in Prospect Heights, David Luther and The Free Alternatives will be playing soul, rock and jazz at The Way Station, the bar known for great music and a TARDIS. This too starts at 10pm.
