Tonight: A Tribute to Shoot Out the Lights and Squeezing Out Sparks at The Mercury Lounge

Shoot Out Squeezing Out

The recipe for tonight’s recommended show: take songs from two classic albums (Richard and Linda Thompson‘s Shoot Out the Lights and Graham Parker‘s Squeezing Out Sparks), add a large helping of New York City musicians (Pete Cenedella, Joanna Choy, Lisa Maree Dowling, Lizzie Edwards, Richard Feridun, Mike Fornatale, Dave Foster, Blythe Gruda, Matt Keating, Reggie Mental, C.P. Roth, Chris Schultz, Tom Shad, Tim Simmonds, Erica Smith and Jahn Xavier), mix well and put it all out at The Mercury Lounge at 6:30pm.  Then enjoy.

Album Tribute: Shoot Out The Lights / Squeezing Out Sparks, Mercury Lounge, 217 East Houston Street between Ludlow and Essex Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit, F Train to Delancey Street or M or J Trains to Essex Street), 6:30pm, $10

  1. Wish I was up there for this one. I like the tribute show format with a mix of musicians. Guitar wise this is an ambitious undertaking for both records.

Very bummed I did not know about this show before now. Shoot Out the Lights was my gateway drug to the contemporary British folk scene and the first time I heard my eventual favorite songwriter/guitarist, Richard Thompson. And that other record ain’t no slouch either.

George, this show has been on the March calendar since I posted it three weeks ago. Why not subscribe to Now I’ve Heard Everything and get an email every time there’s a new post. Just click on the box in the upper right corner.
