Tonight offers four musical choices, with three of them happening at The Rockwood Music Hall. First out of the gate tonight at 7pm is singer-songwriter Freedy Johnston at Rockwood Stage 3. Freedy has a new record out titled Neon Repairman from which you’ll hear some songs. You’ll no doubt also hear some songs from Freedy’s long career which stretches back to his Hoboken days in the early 90s.
Aaron Lee Tasjan will be headline a show over at Subculture in NoHo. Aaron is a guitar whiz whose tasty playing will leave you impressed and satisfied. He’ll play songs based on his sharp observations of life. Opening for Aaron is Julia Haltigan who is playing a solo set, something she rarely does here in NYC. This show will start at 8pm.
Also at 8pm, Joy Askew will bring a new band that consists of Grey McMurray, Josh Dion and Rob Jost into The Rockwood Music Hall. I’m not sure what Joy has up her sleeve for tonight, but she writes great songs and is a wonderful vocalist, so whatever happens should be well worthwhile.
Finally, Rich Hinman, who moved out of New York to LA about six months ago, is back at The Rockwood Music Hall at 11pm. Rich is a much in demand sideman, but tonight he gets to lead instead of follow.
Joy Askew (8pm), Rich Hinman (11pm), Rockwood Music Hall, 196 Allen Street between Houston and Stanton Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit), No Cover (but a contribution for the musicians is highly recommended)
