Tonight, I can recommend two shows. They happen just a few blocks from each other and should time out so that you can catch both of them.
First up at 9pm is Jessi Mechanic at Pianos. When I saw her last year with her old band, she rocked, with a bit of a New Wave feel. So she’s perfect to start out the night. Jessi will be playing at the stage in the Showroom; that’s on the main floor in the back.
Then, at 10pm, Kristin Diable takes the original stage at The Rockwood Music Hall. Kristin is a singer-songwriter I discovered when she was living in New York City and frequently playing here. A few years ago, Kristin moved back to her native Louisiana and now makes it to NYC only a few times a year. Kristin’s music is a combination of rock, folk and blues all held together with an amazing voice made even more astonishing with a Louisiana drawl. She has a new album ready to be released on February 24th. It’s called Create Your Own Mythology and the couple of tracks that have made their way to the Internet sound quite good. Tonight’s show is a full band show. If you haven’t yet caught Kristin, here’s your chance.
