What are you doing at 9 o’clock this evening? If you want to hear music, you have three excellent but mutually exclusive choices.
You’ll find long time Now I’ve Heard Everything favorites Poundcake at The Bitter End in Greenwich Village. The band is made up of Teddy Thompson (guitar and vocals), Jeff Hill (bass and vocals) and Ethan Eubanks (drums and vocals). They play rockabilly and early rock ‘n’ roll covers. Poundcake is always great fun and the band has a knack for picking great songs and playing them with verve. Tonight’s set will be a long one: at least 75 minutes according to the band.
Over in Williamsburg, North of Amarillo, a covers band with Now I’ve Heard Everything favorite Kelli Scarr on lead vocals, will play songs of Emmylou Harris and others in that genre at Skinny Dennis. The band’s set continues through to midnight.
Or you could walk just a few doors down on Metropolitan Avenue to the new incarnation of The Living Room. There, Rony Corcos will lead her band, Rony’s Insomnia, through a set of psychedelic-tinged rock.
North of Amarillo, Skinny Dennis, 152 Metropolitan Avenue at Berry Street (G to Metropolitan Avenue, L to Bedford Avenue or Lorimer Street), 9pm, No Cover (but a contribution for the musicians is highly recommended), 9pm
Rony’s Insomnia, The Living Room, 134 Metropolitan Avenue between Berry Street and Wythe Avenue (G to Metropolitan Avenue, L to Bedford Avenue or Lorimer Street), 9pm, No Cover (but a contribution for the musicians is highly recommended)
