Tonight: Robbie Fulks at Union Hall

If you don’t know Robbie Fulks you should.  Call him country, alt country or whatever.  He plays a mean guitar and writes funny, clever and yes, even poignant songs.   If you read his blog, you’ll find that he’s probably one of the most literate musicians anywhere. Don’t just take my word for it.  The New York Times noted:

But what really sets him apart is his songwriting, which is one part artful country, one part artful sendup of country and one part a little of everything else.

Robbie is based in Chicago and only gets to New York a couple of times a year, so take this opportunity to see him.  This time around, Robbie is touring with a quartet.  Opening the show tonight will be Alex Battles and The Whiskey Rebellion, a band that seems well-matched with Robbie.

Robbie Fulks (Alex Battles and The Whiskey Rebellion open),  Union Hall, 702 Union Street near the corner of 5th Avenue (R Train to Union Street), doors 7:30pm /show 8:30, $15
