For today at CMJ, I have five recommendations. There is one show in the afternoon and four at night, and two show in Brooklyn and three in Manhattan.
Up first is Mosco Rosco (formerly Harper Blynn) the pop rock outfit that used to pack them on the Lower East Side until they pull up stakes and moved to LA a few years back. This show gets going at 2:30pm at The Bowery Electric, but if you can’t make it to this show, don’t worry, Mosco Rosco will play another show tonight as well.
Then, at 8:45pm this evening, at Friends and Lovers in Crown Heights, Karlie Bruce will play a set of her original rock tunes with her band. I just saw her last week and was impressed at how good she and her band are. Although not strictly a part of CMJ, North of Amarillo, with amazing vocalist Kelli Scarr, will be playing their usual Wednesday night gig of covering the songs of Emmylou Harris and others at 9pm at Skinny Dennis in Williamsburg.
Back in Manhattan, Secret Someones will bring their power chords and harmonies to The Rockw0od Music Hall Stage 2 at 10pm. They will soon be touring in Australia, so take this opportunity to see a band that I just can’t rave about enough. Finally, you can end the night with Mosco Rosco, this time at The Studio at Webster Hall. This show will start at 11:30pm.
North of Amarillo, Skinny Dennis, 152 Metropolitan Avenue at Berry Street (G to Metropolitan Avenue, L to Bedford Avenue or Lorimer Street), 9pm, No Cover (but a contribution for the musicians is highly recommended)
