If you are a musician in New York City, you’ve definitely heard of Tony Scherr, and probably, at one time or another, played with him. The list of people who Tony has played with includes Bill Frisell, John Scofield, Norah Jones, and Ana Egge. Tony is also a member of the band Ursa Minor.
But tonight, like he has on so many Monday nights before, Tony will set up at The Rockwood Music Hall and play guitar for an hour with Rob Jost on bass and Anton Fier on drums. You can expect to hear crunchy guitar parts, slide work and extended jams. But there can be more introspective numbers too: I’ve even seen Tony unplugged his electric guitar for a quiet song.
After Tony and his trio finish their set, Jim Campilongo will continue his long running Monday night residency as well. Joining Jim tonight, will be Chris Morrissey on bass and Josh Dion on drums. These Monday night sessions are an exploration of the instrumental side of music, a jazz approach to rock, if you will. Jim is a master of the Telecaster, and you will be amazed at what he can do with it.
