Another music venue is biting the dust. The Ding Dong Lounge, the dive bar on Columbus Avenue near 105th Street, is closing on July 31st. The cause is once again a landlord demanding an increase in rent which makes continuing the business impossible.
After The Lakeside Lounge closed in April, 2012, The Ding Dong Lounge picked up some of the bands who played or would have played The Lakeside. While The Ding Dong was a bit off the beaten track for music venues (that is, not downtown and not Brooklyn), it was divey in a comfortable and inviting way.
The owners of The Ding Dong Lounge say they will reopen in another location by September. But there’s no other way to sum this up other than this just plain sucks.
Update, 5pm Friday July 25: I have just been informed that this show will not take place.
Just as the poster above shows, the music at The Rodeo Bar has been extended one more day. This Sunday, July 27th, which corresponds to the last day of The Rodeo Bar, will now also be the last day of music there. The Dirty Water Dogs will play and they have promised many special guests will be joining them as well. The festivities start at 9pm, but I would suggest getting there as early as possible because it is likely to be crowded.
