Here are two shows, one early, one later, that I can hardily recommend.
The early show starts at 6:30pm at the Manhattan location of Harley Davidson (yes, the motorcycle folks) and it features Jahn Xavier. This is a solo acoustic show for Jahn. Jahn’s music is intelligent, rocking and soulful and the record that he made with his band, The Bowerytones, Yes, You, made the Now I’ve Heard Everything Best Albums of 2013 list.
Later, at 9pm at Webster Hall, Lydia Loveless is back in town from her native Ohio. Lydia’s music is an amalgam of rock, Americana, alt country with some punk thrown into the mix as well. Lydia was one of my highlights at SXSW a few years back. Lydia’s record released earlier this year, Somewhere Else, is a very strong contender for best record of 2014. You’ll find Lydia at Webster Hall, where she’s opening for The Old 97s.
