Music Video: Jahn Xavier and The Bowerytones – I Still Yearn (Live)

June 30, 2014

Jahn Xavier Bowerytones Beast of Bourbon

I’ve spent the past couple of nights listening to Jahn Xavier.  On Saturday, Jahn played at Beast of Bourbon with  with his top-notch band, The Bowerytones (that’s a shot of them above) and with a whole passel of guests sitting in.  Last night, Jahn showed up at The Treehouse at 2A  to sing a couple of duets at The Great Harmony Swap.

No videos from either show have surfaced yet as of this writing, so I’ll go back a couple of months to a video shot live at Arlene’s Grocery by Carmen M Colon of Jahn and The Bowerytones playing I Still Yearn off of their wonderful album from 2013, Yes, You.  And since today is Jahn’s birthday, this is even more appropriate.

Tonight: The Great Harmony Swap at The Treehouse at 2A

June 29, 2014

Great Harmony Swap 6-29-14On the last Sunday of the month, Tom Clark, who runs  The Treehouse at 2A, turns the programming over to Monica “Li’l Mo” Passin.  The result is the series called the Field of Stars (originally held at the late and lamented Banjo Jim’s).

Tonight’s show is a doozy.  Here’s what Li’l Mo says about it:

It takes two baby, and we’ve got them by twos coming and going! Seventeen different duos singing 25 amazing songs of many styles including country, r&b, rock, doo-wop, and pop standards, and some originals, too. Plus a sweet finale dedicated to Gerry Goffin.

Joining Li’l Mo tonight will be Lisa Lowell, Jahn Xavier, Amy Allison, Sherryl Marshall, Leslie Wagner, Charlene McPherson, Eric “Roscoe” Ambel, Elena Skye, Boo Reiners, Dave Foster, Rembert Block, Linda Hill, Drina Seay, Julie Grower, Elisa Peimer, Bill Christopher, Aaron Weinbach, Tom Clark, Annie Mark, Chris James, Deena and John, Rebecca Turner, Scott Anthony, The Margrocks featuring Colleen Hindsley and Arno Hecht. The fun gets going at 9pm, bu it’s going to be crowded up at The Treehouse, so getting there early is highly recommended.

Tonight: Jahn Xavier and The Bowerytones at Beast of Bourbon

June 28, 2014

Jahn Xavier Harley Davidson 6-3-14 1

Jahn Xavier is a New York original.  Jahn’s music is intelligent, rocking and soulful.  In fact, the record that he made with his band, The Bowerytones, last year, Yes, You, was one of Now I’ve Heard Everything’s Best Albums of 2013.

Tonight is Jahn’s yearly birthday show and he’ll be pulling out all the stops.  There will be two sets.  The first one will start at 9pm, with Jahn and The Bowerytones playing songs from Yes, You.  After a short break, the second set will commence at 10:30pm.  Guest stars will be joining Jahn as they play lots of old favorites.

And of course, Beast of Bourbon features BBQ, 42 draft beers and over 40 bourbons.  So between the food, the drink and the music, you’ll have a great time tonight.

Jahn Xavier and The BowerytonesBeast of Bourbon, 710 Myrtle Avenue between Walworth and Spencer Streets (G Train to Myrtle – Willoughby), 9-11pm, No Cover (but a contribution for the musicians is highly recommended)
