Photo Recap – Catilin Rose at Union Hall

March 31, 2013

Caitlin Rose brought her six-piece band into a sold out Union Hall last night.  On stage for more than an hour, she played a mix of songs from her two albums, Own Side Now, and the recently released The Stand-In.  Here are some photos from the show.

Tonight: Caitlin Rose at Union Hall

March 30, 2013

Caitlin Rose -The Stand-In

Tonight Caitlin Rose plays the first of two NYC shows (the other one is Monday at The Mercury Lounge).  I just can’t say enough good things about Caitlin.  Her new album, The Stand-In was released about a month ago and I have no doubt that it will end up on my best of 2013 list at the end of the year.  It’s a fine mix of country and rock.  You can check out a live video of Caitlin and her band playing Only A Clown, a song from The Stand-In she co-wrote with Gary Louris (of The Jayhawks), here.

I’ve already seen Caitlin on her current tour (at SXSW). I can tell you that she and her seven piece band really rock.  This show comes highly recommended.

Caitlin Rose,  Union Hall, 702 Union Street near the corner of 5th Avenue (R Train to Union Street), doors 8pm, $12

Music Video: Puss N Boots – Down By The River

March 29, 2013

Puss N Boots Down By the River

Back during their January residency at The Bell House, Puss n Boots rolled out a brand new cover, Neil Young‘s Down By the River.  The band was in power trio formation for this one, with Sasha Dobson on drums, Catherine Popper on bass and Norah Jones on guitar and lead vocal.  I did not know that there was a video of that performance until I ran into this one from Tacohfan yesterday.  Turning up the volume would be appropriate.

Tonight: Kelli Scarr At The Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2

March 27, 2013

Kelli Scarr and Band

If you were not able to catch the wonderful Kelli Scarr last month during her residency at The Way Station in Brooklyn, take this opportunity see her tonight at 8pm at the centrally located Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2.  Last month, a musician I know who had never seen Kelli saw who was in her band and told me “she must be good to get those guys.”  We both then watched a jaw dropping performance which combined alt country with some alt Pink Floyd.

Kelli Scarr, Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2, 196 Allen Street between Houston and Stanton Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit), 8pm, No Cover (but a contribution for the musicians is highly recommended)

Music Video: Garland Jeffreys with James Maddock – Coney Island Winter

March 26, 2013

James Maddock played an afternoon show a week ago Sunday, and was joined on stage by Garland Jeffreys.  Here James and the band back up Garland singing Coney Island Winter, from Garland’s album of the same name.  Thanks to UnsteadyFreddie for capturing this on video.
