The Loser’s Lounge is a long running affair lead by Joe McGinty during which any number of regulars and guests pay tribute to an artist, back by the house band, The Kustard Kings (you get extra NYC trivia points if you knew that the band takes its name from an early 1960s competitor of Mr. Softee). Tonight the Loser’s Lounge honors Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O’Brien, better known as Dusty Springfield.
Dusty had a big soulful voice and a string of hits and influential records in the 1960s. Her repertoire included the huge hits I Only Want to Be with You and The Look of Love. If you were around in the 60s, you know those songs, and if you weren’t this is the perfect way to get introduced to them. This edition of The Loser’s Lounge will be at Joe’s Pub from tonight through Saturday.
The Loser’s Lounge Tribute to Dusty Springfield, Joe’s Pub, 425 Lafayette Street between Astor Place and E. 4th Street (R Train to 8th Street, 6 Train to Astor Place, B, D, F or M Trains to Broadway-Lafayette), 7pm, Thursday 10/11, 7pm and 9:30pm, Friday 10/12, 6:30pm and 9pm, Saturday 10/13, $25 per show
