Review: Steve Wynn and The Miracle 3 at The Living Room 3/4

On weekends, the Lower East Side in general and The Living Room in particular can get quite crowded; last night was no exception.  The band playing in the 9pm slot, Ivan & Alyosha, had the music room packed.  I&A played past their scheduled stop time and people waiting to see Steve Wynn and The Miracle 3 had to line up in the outer room of  The Living Room. When I&A finished, the crowd leaving the music room had to get past those waiting.  It took a while, but the people leaving left, and the people waiting made it into the music room. When the dust settled, there was a standing room only crowd for SW&M3.

Finally at 10:45 Steve, guitarist Jason Victor, bassist Dave DeCastro and drummer Linda Pitmon took the stage.  Steve said that this was the first show for Linda after elbow surgery two months ago.  Maybe that affected the songs the band played, but it did not seem to affect Linda’s drumming on the song that were played.  Six of the songs were from Northern Aggression, and one of them, Colored Lights, was played only for the second time (the first time was when it was recorded for the album).   The list for the 45 minute set (that’s what one gets at The Living Room) was:

No Tomorrow (Part 1 only)

Still Holding On to You

We Don’t Talk About It

Consider the Source

No One Ever Drowns

Cindy, It Was Always You

Colored Lights

When You Smile

Encore: Ribbons and Chains

When it was over, Steve and the band delivered what they always do, intelligent, pull no punches rock.  The band is playing SXSW (800 times according to Linda) and there will be another NYC show, yet to be scheduled,  a few months from now.

I def want to check these guys out at SXSW. Also, did you watch Ivan and Aloysha? A friend works for their (PR?) firm and mentioned them to me the other day and said to check em at SXSW. Listened to the song on the torrent and it sounded pretty good!

I saw I&A for a song or two and they sounded great. I agree that the SXSW mp3 of them is pretty good. So they’re on my list for SXSW as well.
