Today, Dayna Kurtz released two records: Secret Canon, Vol. 1, and American Standard. Tonight, she’ll do something rather unique: she’ll play a record release show for each record, but with two different bands and at two different clubs. And Dayna is even running a bus between those clubs for many of those who are attending both shows!
The first show will be at Joe’s Pub at 7pm. This will be the Secret Canon, Vol. 1, show. That record consists of mid 20th century r&b, jazz and/or blues songs which have not been previously covered or covered only once, plus one Danya original. The band will consist of Randy Crafton (drums), Dave Richards (bass) and Pete Vitalone (keyboards).
For those who are going from Joe’s Pub to The Rodeo Bar, you can take Dayna’s bus if you already have a reservation or there is space available. Otherwise, just take the 6 Train.
Then, at 9pm, the show at The Rodeo Bar will kick off with Mamie Minch. Danya will join Mamie for a few songs during that set. 10pm, Dayna will play a set with song from American Standard, a lively collection of which draws from several American musical genres. Members of Dayna’s band for this how will be Dan Reiser (drums,) Jay Foote (bass) and Jim Campilongo (guitar). Dayna notes that Jim will be “playing the stompin stuff.”
Dayna Kurtz, Joe’s Pub, 425 Lafayette Street between Astor Place and E. 4th Street (R Train to 8th Street, 6 Train to Astor Place, B, D or F Trains to Broadway-Lafayette), 7pm, $12
