Tonight: Kelly Jones at The Rockwood Music Hall

December 6, 2012

Yes, I’m recommending that you see Kelly Jones twice in one week (she was just at The Living Room on Tuesday).  This show will be completely different from Tuesday’s band show.  Tonight, Kelly will be playing newer songs which she described as more singer-songwriter ones.  Joining her on guitar in a duo format will be Rich Hinman.

For those of you who are not familiar with Kelly,  she used to live in New York City and was a mainstay at The Living Room until she left the area about four years ago.  Kelly has two albums under her belt, the alt country/Americana Handle with Care, which was followed in 2008 with SheBang, a power pop album which she wrote with Mike Viola.

Kelly JonesRockwood Music Hall, 196 Allen Street between Houston and Stanton Streets (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit), 11pm, No Cover (but a contribution for the musicians is highly recommended)

Mike Viola & Jim Boggia – Run to You / Don’t Fear the Reaper / Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress / That Thing You Do

December 5, 2012

Jim Boggia announced the release of a live album today, so here’s a clip that’s always been a favorite of mine: Mike Viola (he’s on the left) joins Jim Boggia for a medley of similar sounding songs.  Mike and Jim cover Bryan Adams (Run to You), Blue Oyster Cult (Don’t Fear the Reaper) and The Hollies (Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress) before they turn to That Thing You Do, written by Adam Schlesinger of The Fountains of Wayne, from the movie of the same name (the title track from the movie was sung by Mike).  Thanks to Jamie Eng who captured all this many years ago.

Tonight: Kelly Jones at The Living Room

December 4, 2012

Kelly Jones used to live in New York City and was a mainstay at The Living Room until she left the area about four years ago.  Kelly has two albums under her belt, the alt country/Americana Handle with Care, which was followed in 2008 with SheBang, a power pop album which she wrote with Mike Viola.  Kelly has played NYC infrequently as of late, and tonight is the first time since the summer to get to see Kelly again.  This is an early show, 9pm, perfect for those of you who don’t like to stay out late on school nights.  It should be perfect for everyone else as well.

Kelly Jones, The Living Room, 154 Ludlow Street between Stanton and Rivington Street (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit), 9pm, No Cover (but a donation for the band is strongly recommended)

Tonight: Kelly Jones at The Living Room

August 20, 2012

Kelly Jones used to live in New York City and was a mainstay at The Living Room until she left the area about four years ago.  Kelly has two albums under her belt, the alt country/Americana Handle with Care, which was followed in 2008 with SheBang, a power pop album which she wrote with Mike Viola.  Kelly has played NYC infrequently as of late, and tonight is the first time in a long while to get to see Kelly again.  This is an early show, 8pm, perfect for those of you who don’t like to stay out late on school nights.  It should be perfect for everyone else as well.

Kelly Jones, The Living Room, 154 Ludlow Street between Stanton and Rivington Street (F Train to 2nd Avenue, use the 1st Avenue exit), 8pm, No Cover (but a donation for the band is strongly recommended)

Advance Planning: August 2012 Music Calendar

July 30, 2012

It’s time once again for Now I’ve Heard Everything’s monthly music calendar.   No show on the calendar costs more than $40 and most are either free or low cost.  As always, the calendar is a work in progress and as new shows are announced during the month, I’ll add them here.  If shows are canceled, I’ll note that too.
