Tonight (Early): Drina Seay at The Lakeside Lounge or Radio Happy Hour at Le Poisson Rouge

August 12, 2011

Here’s a choice of two shows tonight, both of which begin on the early side.

I first saw Drina Seay (pronounced Sea) at Banjo Jim’s a few years back, mostly singing wonderful harmonies with the likes of Li’l Mo and The Monicats.  Drina has been playing with her own band, The Deep Blue Sea for a while now.  Tonight is Drina’s first appearance at The Lakeside Lounge, for an early show beginning at 7pm.  You can expect American, country and roots music.  This show is also Drina’s birthday party.

Radio Happy Hour is a faux 40′s radio show, with a current day sensibility which has been running on a monthly basis for a few years, mostly at  Le Poisson Rouge, where tonight’s show is located.  RHH centers around a murder mystery and includes “commercials” for some of the strangest products you’ll ever encounter.  There’s also music, but the musical guests are not playing full sets, usually just a few songs.

As tonight is the last RHH ever, there will be a cast of thousands including Twin Sister, Mike Doughty, Matt Pond PA, Franz Nicolay, Jenny Slate, Max Silvestri, Gabe Liedman, Arden Myrin, Arthur Phillips, John & Molly Knefel, Murray Hill, William Ocean, Jared Logan, Jessi Klein and more.

Drina Seay, Lakeside Lounge, 162 Avenue B near 10th Street (any train to 14th Street or the L Train to 1st Avenue, transfer t0 the M14A or M14D bus to 11th Street and walk to Avenue B), 7pm, No Cover (but donation for the band strongly encouraged)

Radio Happy Hour, Le Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker Street between Thompson and Sullivan Streets (A, B, C, D, E, F or M Trains to West 4th Street), doors 6:30pm / show 7:30pm general admission event (Note: seating is limited and available on a first come, first seated basis)

Either there are a lot of musicians taking the month of August off, or there will be more shows posted in the coming days and weeks.  Still there’s a nice variety of things going on, just not at the frenetic pace of July.  As always, where there are updates, they will be posted, both here and in a news item.
