Spanking Charlene usually just play The Lakeside Lounge on the third Saturday of the month, but tonight they are branching out and will be at The Bowery Electric at 10:30pm. Yes, Spanking Charlene, the band which gets me page views from people using Google looking for corporal literature, pictures and movies. Instead those slap happy Googlers discover a great New York City band with a somewhat pornish name.
Spanking Charlene combines rock and punk in a way reminiscent of The Ramones. One commentator said “this band sounds almost exactly like X! Except with better vocals.” They are cutting an album with Eric “Roscoe” Ambel producing; they’ve recut their song, Dismissed with A Kiss which Little Steven of The E Street Band, Underground Garage and Sopranos fame produced. They are just plain fun, and tonight Eric Ambel will be joining the band as well.
