As I mentioned previously, Friday night there was a twofer at The Living Room. First up was Sydney Wayser. She’s been recording been recording a new album for the past six months or so and this was her first public performance in a while. This show was the coming out party for her new material. What we got was Sydney’s music tied to straight ahead rock arrangements. This was a musically more muscular Sydney. Musical growth, sure, but not only that, it had a great beat. Just seeing this unfold on stage was invigorating.
And then it was Emily Zuzik‘s turn. Emily knows how to write songs and has had a batch of them that she has been performing over the past few years. She decided that what this collection needed was full on rock arrangements and that’s what they have in her latest album, The Wild Joys of Living, which was just released. Friday, the band was extremely tight. Vocally, Emily pulled out all the stops and was electric. And if that wasn’t enough, she gave out brownies she had baked earlier in the day to the audience.
