Steve Wynn and The Miracle 3 walked onto the barely raised stage of The Living Room in as good a mood as I have ever seen them and the band seemed to having a great time during set up. When everything was finally in place (around 9:15), the band started the show with Resolution from their soon to be released album, Northern Aggression. Resolution was not unfamiliar to me for two reasons: I’ve been playing it a good deal over the past week (Steve has been streaming it on his website) and it really did fit in with the rest of Steve’s catalog.
For the next hour Steve and The Miracle 3 played their brand of straight ahead rock, unrelenting, yet thoughtful and literate. This set contained a mix of old and new songs (you’ll find a full set list below). The two surprises in the show were Bullet With My Name On It (from The Dream Syndicate‘s second album, Medicine Show) and another new song from Northern Aggression, No One Ever Drowns, which was originally written by Steve for Goat Deity, the band he was in before The Dream Syndicate.
The Living Room gave Steve an hour slot and that was how long the band played for. Noting that although he had been to The Living Room before, this was the first time he was on stage here and it made him seem taller. “Two inched taller” noted Linda, who accurately restated the rise between the stage and the floor.
